Jean P Glas graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 1996, Amsterdam. At the Academy he specialized in Photography and trained as an autonomous photographer .
Glas creates his work by starting with a model. He searches for shapes and patterns that he can manipulate to create a more empowering image. When he starts to break down the images, copy, flip, and rotate them he sees the work take form.
This is when the image starts to tell a story. After this, several more photo shoots are done in order to capture the image in Glas's mind. One piece can take up to 6 shoots and include more than 50 individual images. The piece is never how he initially imagines it. It takes on a life of its own and evolves into the pieces you see in front of you. This is because of the limitations of the human body, the interpretation of his work by the models, and the development of new ideas. Once he feels the work is complete he makes the frame to match the personality of the piece and finalizes his project.
He has exhibited in Amsterdam, Paris, London, Bath and in 2009 he was nominated for the Nominee Colour Award. His work is, amongst others, influenced by the works from Pierre and Gilles, Esher, Vargas, Gil Elvgren, Erwin Olaf and Inez van Lamsweerde.
