Julian St Clair
Biography

Juliene St Claire was born in 1952 and began painting in the early 1970s. Though he had no formal artistic training he was fortunate to know a couple of professional modernist artists who realized he was genuinely driven by the 'ART' thing and helped encourage his fledgling efforts.
At this time he was living in Richmond-Upon-Thames where it was easy to get to the West End and see amazing exhibitions by artists like Patrick Caulfield, Peter Phillips, Peter Blake etc.

Though for a long time he was interested in flat, graphic styles it was only after moving from Notting Hill Gate to Cornwall in 1990 that he was able to start to develop his current way of painting.

He often thinks of himself as an abstract painter bewitched by a world of imagery, especially at this moment in time when we are experiencing a veritable tsunami of visual information. More often than not though the kind of images that find their way into his work derive from the Golden Age of popular culture, somehow the patina of
time seems to endow things from this period with a poetry and presence that is irresistible.

In recent years the computer has become a very useful tool but always towards the handmade object the painting itself.
